Birding Spots Near Elkin

North Carolina means mountains to many people, and its certainly true that the Appalachians offer fabulous scenery, great recreational opportunities, and equally wonderful birding. Visit Grandfather Mountain is the world's only privately owned International Biosphere Preserve. Its numerous rocky outcrops support Peregrine Falcon and Common Raven, and ample heath bald, cove forest, and mixed forest areas support broad diversity of bird species. Doughton Park provides access to a wide variety of habitats including open grassy fields, xeric slopes, cove hardwoods, and mixed forest. These habitats support a wide variety of breeding birds and many that are found throughout the region.
