All firefighters are required by the State of North Carolina to receive a minimum of 36 hours of training per year. Drills are held on the first and third Monday nights of each month at the fire station. There are 3 certified instructors in the department.
All members work toward State certification as Level II Firefighters. This requires 140 hours of training. Currently there are 12 Level II firefighters in the department. All of the certification classes are conducted by Surry Community College.
