Spelunking / Caving
Spelunking is the recreational sport of exploring caves, but no buddy really calls it spelunking anymore everyone just calls it caving. Caving is an excellent activity for the adventurous and curious individual any time of the year.
Caving, like skydiving or rock climbing, is as adventurous as you want it to be. There are caves that are suitable for beginners where can walk through on a paved path. And there are others that require hundreds of feet of crawling and wiggling and rappelling down some tight places .
Humans have been drawn to caves since prehistoric times. Modern archeologists have found evidence that people believed caves were sacred places in which to carry out religious rites and ceremonies. In prehistoric times, caves offered stable interior temperatures and protection from harsh weather and enemies. In more recent times, caves have served as a place for hiding treasure, perfect environments for aging cheese and wine, and perfect natural labs for scientific discovery.
Worleys Cave in Tennessee and Roberts Cave in Virginia are safe for beginners and groups, providing an authentic and beautiful introduction to the life and landscape of the subterranean world.
