When trying to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, day hiking trips are ideal. They provide a perfect opportunity to get away for quality time and fun but without spending a fortune.
Thousands of hikers chart trips every year in the Blue Ridge. North Carolina attracts hikers from all over the world because the Appalachian Mountains offer as much enjoyment to a beginner as a seasoned hiker due to its variety and difficulty of trails. Above all, North Carolinas magnificent beauty and wildlife is its primary appeal.
Seeing the majesty of a wildlife in their natural habitat is unmatched. Animal watching can be a great way to catch a glimpse of the splendor of nature. A recreational hike through the mountains can afford you the opportunity to see many birds and animals.
Almost all the trails are on public land and there is no fee to hike. You may need to register for overnight camping along the way, or if you dont like roughing it there are many small towns with pleasant accommodations.
The Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail travels through VA, TN, NC & SC, retracing the route of patriot militia as they tracked down the British. Eventually the two forces clashed, ending in patriot victory at the battle of Kings Mountain.
The trail is still under development through partnerships, but the public has many places to visit and walk today.
