Festivals / Fairs - a Celebration of Life
It's easy to breeze right by Elkin on I-77, but if you pass while a festival is going on you might want to hit the brakes. Elkin's small-town festivals offer low-key, budget merriment with fresh local flavor.
Enjoy the annual Easter Egg Hunt and 5K Bunny Hop run or the Junior Novice tennis tournament in April.
In May, is the Yadkin Valley Wine Festival, a festival that attracts thousands of visitors to taste and learn about the Yadkin Valley wine industry. Other events in May include The Yadkin Valley Senior Games and the American Cancer Society's largest annual fund-raiser, "Relay for Life".
In July, the Elkin Jaycees' hosts the Forth of July celebration which includes activities and food for the whole family and a spectacular fireworks display after dark. Also in July enjoy the downtown KidsFest, which includes a children's parade, scavenger hunt and arts festival.
In September is the Overmountain Victory Trail Celebration with re-enactments, children's activities and plenty of food. Or later in the Fall join the festivities at the Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival held in Historic Downtown Elkin.
During November join the Foothills Art Council's "Arts for Giving" Event, where over 50 local and regional artist and craftsmen display unique gifts for purchase. In late November participate in the Thanksgiving Turkey Foul Shooting Contest. Participants shoot the 10 best baseball free throws to win a free turkey for Thanksgiving.
